Growing up
in the Arts
Growing up in a household of six other artists meant it wasn't long before Lily caught the theatre bug. She started performing at the age of five, beginning tap lessons and dancing in annual recitals for what became over thirteen years. For nine of those years, Lily was a part of the North Carolina Youth Tap Ensemble alongside her three sisters. They would travel the state, and the country, performing in schools and theaters, educating audiences on the history of tap dance. In middle school, she discovered her school's drama club, and, despite the drama club being geared towards outcasts at her small parochial school, Lily joined. She debuted her talent by playing Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof at age fourteen (fake beard and all). In high school Lily stuck with theatre, spending hours upon hours after school in rehearsals for student plays and musicals. She couldn't get enough of it--the process of preparing lines, the behind-the-scenes character work, the reward of applause, the friendships that were formed. After accepting her offer to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Lily threw herself into the school's student theatre community - building shows from the ground up and with very little budget. During her four years. Lily directed two student productions, performed in numerous others, and discovered a new love for opera and classical music. Having now graduated in with a B.A. in Music and a B.A. in Dramatic Art, she looks forward to further educating herself with new experiences and opportunities. Lily has always loved performing, whether it be in front of hundreds of strangers or in her living room, and she has her art-filled childhood and family to thank for this profound love and support for theatre.
